Dynamic Traction of Deep-Sea Polymetallic Nodule Collector

چکیده

The ocean is extremely rich in mineral resources. To cope with the shortage of land resources, countries are focusing on development deep-sea mining technology. Owing to its superior traction performance, polymetallic nodule collector (DPNC) has become preferred solution for mining. This paper proposes a dynamic calculation model address shortcomings classical static consideration variation rule grouser–soil interaction DPNC process. Lab tests were conducted formulate materials similar soil, and corresponding shear stress–displacement models established using discrete element method (DEM) Magic Formula describe “shear stress–displacement” relationship more accurately. Considering Kunlong 500, which Chinese DPNC, as an example, periodicity dynamics force analyzed compared numerical simulation results. was smaller than fluctuated significantly when considering grousers–soil interaction. magnitude fluctuation influenced by ratio grouser height spacing. In design, spacing should be optimized according properties subsoil improve performance stability DPNC.

Biological responses to disturbance from simulated deep-sea polymetallic nodule mining

Commercial-scale mining for polymetallic nodules could have a major impact on the deep-sea environment, but the effects of these mining activities on deep-sea ecosystems are very poorly known. The first commercial test mining for polymetallic nodules was carried out in 1970. Since then a number of small-scale commercial test mining or scientific disturbance studies have been carried out. Here w...

Draft Genome Sequence of Microbacterium profundi Shh49T, an Actinobacterium Isolated from Deep-Sea Sediment of a Polymetallic Nodule Environment

Microbacterium profundi strain Shh49(T) was isolated from deep-sea sediment from a polymetallic nodule area located in the East Pacific Ocean. Strain Shh49(T) contains genes related to the reduction/oxidation of metals. It has potential application in the bioremediation of heavy metal-contaminated environments.

Simulation for the Motion of Polymetallic Nodules in Hydraulic Hoist for Deep Sea Mining

The two-phase flow composed of polymetallic nodules and the fluid in hydraulic hoist for deep sea mining was simulated by the discrete particle method (DPM). The motion of nodule particles was simulated by the particle-motion-resolved model, in which the effects of Saffman lift force and Magnus lift force were included. The collisions between particles as well as between particles and the pipe ...

From the Surface to the Deep-Sea: Bacterial Distributions across Polymetallic Nodule Fields in the Clarion-Clipperton Zone of the Pacific Ocean

Marine bacteria regulate fluxes of matter and energy essential for pelagic and benthic organisms and may also be involved in the formation and maintenance of commercially valuable abyssal polymetallic nodules. Future mining of these nodule fields is predicted to have substantial effects on biodiversity and physicochemical conditions in mined areas. Yet, the identity and distributions of bacteri...

Association of deep-sea incirrate octopods with manganese crusts and nodule fields in the Pacific Ocean

Incirrate octopods (those without fins) are among the larger megafauna inhabiting the benthic environments of all oceans, commonly in water depths down to about 3,000 m. They are known to protect and brood their eggs until the juveniles hatch, but to date there is little published information on octopod deep-sea life cycles and distribution. For this study, three manganese-crust and nodule-abun...
